Summer 2021 Program Changes FAQs
Don’t see your question here? Give us a shout!
I was supposed to be an Abirut camper last summer, does this mean I miss Abirut Island?
We are exploring all possible ways to ensure that campers who skip a program this year, still get to experience all the important marquee events of that program. We are working to ensure that Abirut 2020 will have an opportunity to participate in Abirut island as well as brush up on wilderness skills before heading out on AC in 2021.
Why only hold back AC + LTP? Why not just hold everyone back a year?
When looking at current cohort numbers and forecasts, we decided only holding LTP and AC back would minimize disruption to the camp program. If we held all age groups back a year, we would end up with a jam packed First Session with kids aged 6-13 while Second Session would remain small. We like the age distribution of current sessions (7-11, 12-14) as it reflects our school system (First session = elementary school, 2nd session = middle school) and felt that holding everyone back a year could be detrimental to the programming we provide.
I was supposed to be on AC last year, are you saying I have to share my AC with another age group?
Not exactly. We are doing our best in planning for 2021 to keep age cohorts on AC separate. AC 2020 and AC 2021 will have different departure dates, homecomings, and T-shirt designs. We recognize how important it is to have a unique AC experience to share with your age cohort and we will do our best to ensure that our AC participants feel they had a unique experience.
I was on a 2 night Kachot overnight in 2019, and now I don’t feel prepared about jumping to a Chavura overnight in 2021!
Campers will be consulted, and their comfort levels will be taken into account before 2021 2nd session trip lengths are finalized. 2021 overnight lengths will be flexible and reflect what our campers’ suggest. Additionally, we will provide opportunities in the winter and spring leading up to summer 2021 for campers to brush up on wilderness skills with camp staff.
How will these changes affect my staff path?
Our staff explainer can be found here. There is minimal changes to staffing, other than now all of our staff moving forward will have graduated high school.

Will the combined CIT/LTP years in 2021 and 2022 be the same length and cost as LTP?
Yes. The program will run similarly to LTP but with added training and opportunities for certification to better prepare our LTP’s for staff.
How will we have an LTP/CIT and LTP running at the same time in 2022?
Just like years where we’ve had large LTP cohorts, we can run the two programs separately over first and second session. We will make sure that both cohorts get to participate in all LTP programming as an age cohort and not be combined with another age group. Both groups will plan an execute Maccabiah opening, LTP shabbat, and all other programs LTPers typically do.
Whats the difference between LTP and CIT? How much will CIT cost?
We are still in the initial planning stages of the CIT program and don’t want tp make any big decisions without community involvement and consultation. In broad strokes, LTP will be a general leadership program and bookend to your camper years suitable for any youth who wants to refine their leadership skills, and learn to lead a group of peers. Our CIT program will specifically train participants to become BB camp staff. CIT’s will learn important skills and certifications to prepare them to be effective youth development professionals.
