Adapting to the 2020 Shutdown

On Tuesday May 19th, Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced that overnight summer camps will remain closed for the 2020 season, and we made difficult announcement that this summer’s BB Camp season is cancelled. This includes Day Camps and Specialty programs. We are heartbroken, of course, but this pandemic compels all of us to deal with forces beyond our control. In looking forward to 2021, we had to make some changes to our program to accomodate the 2020 cancellation, take a look at the explainer below, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!

What about next year?

We set out to see how we can adapt our program in 2021 to make up for 2020’s cancellation, while also minimizing disruption to the ‘path of a camper’, and our island’s capacity. We identified AC + LTP as the two programs that are vital in training future staff, and are too important to miss.

Introducing CIT

We see adding another year of leadership training after LTP as a win-win. Our LTP and AC cohorts get to catch up, and our camp will be better served by having older, better trained staff.

Minimizing Disruption

We plan to phase in CIT over the next three seasons. This gives us time to consult with campers and families to design and implement a valuable program that serves the camp’s and community’s needs, while still allowing current LTP cohorts to move on to staff.
