SIT Frequently asked questions
Do I have to pay for SIT?
No. SIT participants do not pay a fee for participating in the program. Prospective SIT’s will apply for a spot, and then be interviewed by a member of the leadership team before they are accepted into the program.
What’s the difference between LTP and SIT?
While LTP is a general leadership program for anyone looking to develop their skills as a leader, SIT is a program specifically designed to prepare young people to become BB Camp Staff. SIT’s will work in one position for the entire session, and participants who complete both sessions will be given opportunities to gain valuable certifications such as Bronze Cross, NLS (Lifeguarding) or WFA (Wilderness First Aid)
Why this new program and not just allowing 16 and 17-year-old’s to become Junior Counsellors like before?
Adding this SIT program brings BB Camp into alignment with industry best practices of only hiring staff who have graduated high school and are (for the most part) over 18. We feel a SIT program is a win-win in that it allows us to better train our prospective staff, better support our counsellors with additional support staff, and give young people an opportunity to have a taste of working at camp with additional supports before they become staff.
What’s the difference between an SIT and Staff?
SITs will be placed in cabins, operations, and program job placements and will work 2 out of 3 daily work periods (Morning, Afternoon, and Evening). During their period off, SIT’s will have time to relax and unwind, debrief with their director, and participate in additional professional development workshops.
Will SITs have the same privileges as staff?
SITs will be allowed to bring their cell phones to camp, have access to camp WIFI, The Heights, and days off.
Why should someone sign up for SIT?
In addition to the invaluable opportunity to spend a summer at BB Camp with your friends, Staff who had previously completed SIT will get paid a higher salary as a first year staff, and have the choice of a variety of certifications paid for by the camp.
