Advanced Camp (AC)

Canoe trips have been a longstanding tradition at BB Camp for over 50 years. Trips offer a challenge and a great sense of accomplishment.   Trips, outside of Camp into the wilderness, provide unique opportunities for skill development, community building and personal challenge. A four week canoe trip awaits 15 year old campers eager to expand their wilderness skills and to acquire a variety of new skills.

Tripping skills and values embody everything BB Camp can hope to offer: exposure to breathtakingly beautiful country, teamwork and bonding, outdoor living, adventure and challenge, resourcefulness, appreciation of nature, challenge, self-reliance, self-esteem, fun and memories. It is what young people remember most from their summer camp experience. And certainly our location provides us with easy access to perhaps the greatest canoe trip area - Lake of the Woods.

Canoe trips are a great opportunity for campers to safely step outside their comfort zones while also experiencing the beauty of nature.

Our well-trained outtripping staff lead campers on a variety of trips that vary in terms of length and degree of difficulty.  Each trip is made up of 6 – 10 campers and two outtrippers.  Out outtrippers are highly qualified and responsible for the planning, navigating, safety and cooking.

The program culminates on “Homecoming Day” as family members are invited to BB Camp to witness the return of the AC’ers. Participation in the AC program is at the discretion of the Camp.

Previous camp experience is strongly recommended.

Leadership Training Program (LTP)

BB Camp’s Leadership Training Program is a six-week co-ed residential experience designed to provide leadership opportunities that prepare teens to become staff members at Camp, as well as productive members of their home community. The LTP program includes: internship in all aspects of a counselor’s job at Camp, participation in service projects, training sessions on such topics as basic child development and behavior management, counseling techniques and best practices, communication and leadership, environmental stewardship, and community service. LTP’s also embark on a 15 day canoe trip in the remote regions in Lake of the Woods that focuses on leadership and teamwork, technical skill development as well as offering a worthwhile personal challenge for participants.

LTP applicants must be completing 10th grade. BB Camp’s LTP program is designed to enhance interpersonal and communication skills while fostering independence and self-awareness. Service is also an important part of the LTP program; we believe that service to others, whether individually or in a community, is an essential character value at Camp and at home.  LTP is designed to prepare teens for the challenge of becoming a future camp staff and work in a variety of leadership opportunities.
